Phylogeography of the flag cabrilla Epinephelus labriformis (Serranidae): implications for the biogeography of the Tropical Eastern Pacific and the early stages of speciation in a marine shore fish

چکیده
Understanding the process and underlying mechanisms of speciation remains a challenging subject in evolutionary biology. Identifying genes that are essential to confer reproductive isolation is difficult and time consuming, and those that have been described as ‘speciation genes’ vary in terms of demonstrable effect (Swanson & Vacquier, 2002; Tregenza, 2002; Noor, 2003; Pitnick et al., 2003; Ritchie & Noor, 2004; Arnegard et al., 2005). We are therefore faced with the challenge of using putatively neutral markers as a means of developing hypotheses regarding the underlying mechanisms of speciation. Annotated checklist of marine fishes from the Sanctuary of Bahía Chamela, Mexico with occurrence and biogeographic data
An annotated checklist of marine fishes of the Sanctuary of Islands and Islets of Bahía Chamela in the central Mexican Pacific is presented. Records of fish species were obtained by different methods including visual census, sampling with anesthetics, fisherman-nets, and trawling with a biological dredge. Additional records were obtained from natural history collections and publications. The li...

Identification of marine ornamental fishes in northern part of the Persian Gulf, Iran
In the past decade, the investment in fisheries development has grown remarkably in the Persian Gulf region. A 1800 km of northern coastline of the Persian Gulf, the Oman Sea and more than 14 islands belong to Iran have provided great possibilities of economic activities. In-shore marine islands such as Kish, Farour, Hendurabi, Tonb made a good opportunity for fishing and harvesting of ornament...

Well-preserved miospore assemblages are recorded from the Late Ordovician (Katian-Hirnantian), Ghelli Formation in Pelmis-gorge at the north-eastern Alborz Mountain The palynomorphs were extracted from siliciclastic deposits which are well-dated by using of marine palynomorphs (acritarchs and chitinozoans). The encountered miospore assemblages consist of 14 genera (28 species: 26 cryptospores a...

The Japanese threadfin bream, Nemipterus japonicus, the most abundant and crucially economic Nemipterus species is widespread throughout the Indo-West Pacific. The species has been studied widely for various aspects but genetic studies are scanty. This preliminary study contributes to the species phylogeography through the study of the genetic diversity and historical demography of N. japonicus...
